  • Best Pest Control Methods

All pests are different so getting rid of them requires different pest control methods. However with that said, there are a number of things that you can do that will apply to the majority of pests, so we’ll be going though those here.

    Some common pests.

    Pest Control: Prevention

Most pests require external sources of food and water to be able to survive, so that is what they look for. The only exceptions to that are parasites such as fleas and bed bugs which get everything they need from their host. There are also pests such as wasps which can go just about anywhere because they get their sustenance from the environment around where they nest, so you can’t really do anything to prevent them from nesting on your property.

For everything from mice to woodworm though, they require external sources of food and water if they are going to survive. Basically though removing these conditions just requires keeping your house in good order. So when it comes to removing food sources, to do that you just have to make sure you have a regular cleaning routine so that there are no little scraps of food or crumbs for them to get.

In terms of removing sources of water, that just means that you have to keep your plumbing and drains in good order. There are some pests which are only really attracted to the water they can find in your home, for example woodworm will only infest damp wood. Silverfish and woodlice are also attracted to damp conditions, so if you get an infestation of anything like that then there is probably an underlying problem with damp that you are going to have to deal with.

Sometimes though you just get unlucky. For example rodents and squirrels might want to build a nest on your property because it provides them with somewhere warm and sheltered to stay. To prevent that from happening then you are going to have to seal up your home so that there is no way in. This means inspecting your property, external walls (or the roof for squirrels) especially, for little holes they might be able to get through. If you seal these up there shouldn’t be any way for the pests to come in.

    Getting Rid of Pests

It is the pest control techniques associated with getting rid of pests where the real variety comes in. In some cases you can trap the pests, for example for mice and rats. Other times poisoned bait is used, for example to kill an ant queen. Then there are sprays, insecticide powders, and of course fumigation which is useful in a number of situations.

When it comes to pest control treatments then it is best to have experts carry it out as they are going to know the best techniques to use for each specific pest.
