Wasp Control: Prevention
It will soon be spring again, when wasp season begins. So if you are going to avoid a wasps’ nest being built on your property then you should start thinking about what you are going to do now. Of course having said that there is very little that you can do to prevent wasps from building a nest on your property, but there are a few, which we will go through now.
Preventing Wasps Nests
Wasps like to build their nest in warm and humid conditions. Of course that is often the case in spring and summer outside anyway which is why they can nest just about anywhere. Common wasps prefer to build nests inside though, so to prevent them from nesting somewhere like your attic or shed you should try to keep them cool and dry.
Of course keeping those sorts of places air conditioned is not really going to be an option, so you can’t do very much about the heat problem. In the loft though at least it is a good idea to keep the humidity down. Not just to keep wasps away but also to make sure that woodworm are not going to find damp wood for them to infest. They will only go in to damp wood because that is how they get the water that they need.
To that end you should also make sure that you don’t have any leaking pipes in your loft, or anywhere else in your property ideally to keep other pests away as well. Beyond that though there is very little you can do to prevent wasps’ nests from becoming a problem.
Getting Rid of Wasps’ Nests
The other thing you can do to prevent wasps’ nests from becoming a problem is to regularly check your attic, basement, shed and anywhere else where they might build a nest. If you find the nest early then it is going to be easy to get rid of all the wasps, before a lot of them are made and you get a real problem with them.
If you do find a wasps’ nest on your property then you should get in pest control experts to deal with it. They are the only ones that are going to have the proper substances to get rid of the wasps effectively. That’s because the insecticide spray that has to be used to get rid of wasps has been licensed for professional use only. Even if that were not the case though it would still be a good idea to get the experts in for safety reasons if nothing else.
There are amateur techniques of course, such as blocking up the entrance to the nest or setting it on fire. However none of them are completely effective at getting rid of the wasps and usually the result is simply that the wasps are made more angry.
