Optical Bird Gel

Small bowls of Optical Bird Gel on a tiled roof.

Optical Bird Gel is a discreet and effective deterrent to urban birds such as pigeons and seagulls. It is a kind of bird scarer, in that it creates a psychological barrier to the birds rather than a physical one. That's because, although the gel simply looks orange to humans,  it creates the illusion that the building is on fire to birds because they can see in the UV spectrum.

Bird Deterrents

All forms of bird control offered by PestControl.co.uk are bird deterrents. It is not practical (nor ethical, many would say) to eradicate an infestation of birds. Instead, bird deterrents are used to keep them away from landing on your property in the first place.

Pest control techniques for birds sometimes means creating physical barriers, preventing them from perching or nesting on your property. Others, such as the Optical Bird Gel, create psychological barriers by taking advantage of the way that birds experience the world. These have been found to be just as effective as physical barriers and often less intrusive aesthetically.

How Optical Bird Gel Works

As mentioned, Optical Bird Gel works by making birds think that the building is on fire. It does this by making use of the fact that birds can see UV light, so the gel is constructed in such a way as to make it appear that the gel is producing flames in the UV spectrum.

In addition to this, special herbal oils are used which are abhorrent to pigeons' and seagulls' sense of taste and smell. All of this in combination means that birds will be deterred from landing on or coming near your property.

Advantages of Optical Bird Gel

All of the pest control methods used as bird deterrents have their own specific advantages. When it comes to Optical Bird Gel, the main ones are:

  • Discretion. The Optical Bird Gel is only about 1cm high, so if it is put on a roof it will not be visible from ground level.
  • Indoors or outdoors. This is a bird deterrent which is ideal for use inside or outside. It has been proven to stand up to extreme weather conditions, including the heat and rain in Singapore and the extremely cold winters in Korea.
  • Long-lasting. The manufactures say that, if it is left undisturbed, then even in the most extreme weather conditions it will last for at least 2 years.
