Iden Green is a hamlet on the edge of Benenden in the Wealden countryside of Kent, sitting among the fields, orchards and patches of ancient woodland that make this part of the county so distinctive. Summer brings wasp nests in the outbuildings, under roof tiles and in the soft ground along hedgerows and banks. The orchards in this part of Kent attract wasps in good numbers as the fruit starts ripening from midsummer onward. Iden Green has the kind of quiet, deep-countryside character that draws people to the Weald, but that setting means living alongside the wildlife that thrives in farmland and woodland.
