Selling Food Pest Control Chatham

If you are in the business of selling food then you will already know the importance of supplying products your customers enjoy. And nobody enjoys products which have been contaminated by pests. PestControl.co.uk can set up appropriate pest control systems which will keep your customers coming back, and your business in compliance with UK legislation.

Selling Food: Pest Control

When a customer buys food from a business, whether that be a cafe, a supermarket or a restaurant, they are trusting that it is at the very least safe to eat. If that expectation is found to be false they are unlikely to return. It is therefore vitally important for anyone selling food to make sure that it has not been contaminated by pests.

When food comes to be sold, it has usually passed through a number of previous stages, from raw materials to processing, packaging and distribution. Pest control procedures should have been taken at each of those stages, but when you are selling the food it is up to you to make sure that it is safe to eat.

One of the most important steps to take, therefore, is to check that the products you receive are free of pests before you put them on sale.

It is also vital of course that your premises are pest-free

Pest Control: Prevention

When you charge PestControl.co.uk to put in place a pest control system for your business, the first thing we will do is send one of our technicians to survey your property. They will use their expertise to find not only signs of a current pest problem, but any conditions which could lead to an infestation in the future.

Here are some of the things we will be looking for:

A woman selecting oranges at a supermarket.
  • Hygiene Standards. It is of course important that any area where food is being handled is hygienic. This includes making sure that spaces under cupboards, and any other hard to reach spaces, are free of any food debris.
  • Building Maintenance. Even small cracks and holes in exterior walls can serve as entry points for insects and rodents. Therefore these must be filled in. A blocked drain or gutter is also a pest control problem because it could provide a source of water for pests, attracting them to your property.
  • Pest Infestations. Rodents are nocturnal creatures so it is common to see signs of their activity before you see an actual mouse or rat. Chewed cardboard and droppings are two of the most common tell-tale signs. Flying insects are notoriously difficult to keep out of food areas, but pose one of the most serious threats to food safety. Appropriate screens for exterior and interior doors, as well as fly killers, vastly reduce the risk of flying insects contaminating food.

Once the technician has compiled their report and made suggestions for how any problems can be remedied, one of our pest control technicians will implement the work which needs to be done.

We will also return for regular visits to make sure the pest control system put in place continues to be effective. This should also give you peace of mind, knowing that you are operating safely and in compliance with UK law.
