Food Packaging Pest Control Newbury

A meat packing facility; two men in protective clothing talking.

Packaging is a crucial step on the food life cycle, and a pest infestation at this stage will cause problems all the way down the line. At PestControl.co.uk we can come up with a pest control system to ensure that you do not contract such problems, and remain in compliance with UK legislation.

Pest Control for Food Packaging

One of the most common pests which can be a problem at the food packaging stage are cockroaches. They are sometimes found to hide in cardboard boxes and wooden pallets, not only contaminating the food they are in contact with but causing an infestation at the destination facility.

Of course it is not only cockroaches that are potentially a problem, rats and mice are also a threat, as are a whole host of insects. In fact flying insects, such as flies and wasps, have been found to be the biggest threat to facilities that handle food.

PestControl.co.uk understands the challenges faced by food packaging facilities and can help to make sure that you never face a pest infestation.

The first thing we will do is have a field biologist visit your premises and perform a survey, looking for pest control problems.

Once the survey has been completed, a report will be made and suggestions will be given for solving any problems that have been found. When you are satisfied with the work that has been proposed, a pest control technician from PestControl.co.uk will be able to carry out these measures.

How to Prevent a Pest Infestation

Here are some of the ways that a pest infestation can be prevented, so that you can anticipate the sorts of things that we will be looking for in our survey and the sorts of recommendations we are likely to make:

  • Limit sources of food and water. Pests are living creatures which require food and water to survive, so if they cannot find these things on your facility then you are unlikely to get an infestation. This simply means that the facility should be clean, with food and refuse properly stored so that pests cannot get to them. Water sources become available when there are leaking pipes or blocked drains for example, so any problems of these kinds also need to be attended to.
  • Proofing. This means making it as difficult as possible for pests to enter your facility. Sometimes they are just on the lookout for shelter rather than food or water. Solutions to this include filling in any holes or cracks in exterior walls, and making sure that there are screens covering doors that need to be open because of heavy traffic. Ventilation holes will also need to be proofed for rodents and insects.
  • Regular inspections. Staff should always be on the lookout for potential pest control issues, whether they be signs of pests, or damage to any aspect of the pest control system put in place. Our pest control operatives can tell you what to look out for.

Once the pest control system is in place, our pest control operatives can return regularly to make sure that it is still working properly. This will give you peace of mind that you remain in compliance with the relevant laws, and that you will pass any official inspection.
